IRVING, Texas, Feb. 13 / — At noon today, Steve and Mary Kruzik from Pennsylvania won a two-carat Celebration Diamond ring from Zales after competing in Profess Your Love, a live national Valentine’s Day contest held in the heart of New York City’s Times Square.
For nearly two weeks, romantics across the nation submitted, in their own words, why they are deeply and madly in love. The nearly 700 submissions sent to Zales included songs, poems, sonnets and essays. Five finalists were selected and flown to New York to compete in the live contest. A panel of judges including famed sex therapist Dr. Ruth, editors from Glamour and The Knot, and relationship expert Matt Titus were on hand to determine the winners.
“Steve and Mary were simply adorable. Their story was unique, and his willingness to profess his love in such a sincere and open manner was remarkable. The competition was stiff; the other four finalists had tremendous love stories as well, but Steve truly stuck out. We’re thrilled that they received the ring from Zales and wish them a happy Valentine’s Day and lots of luck and love in the future,” said Matt Titus, author of Why Hasn’t He Called? and Why Hasn’t He Proposed?
The winners received a remarkable two-carat princess cut Celebration Diamond solitaire ring from Zales. The Celebration Diamond made its debut in Zales stores nationwide this fall. With 102 facets, it is the most brilliant diamond ever sold in the company’s 85-year history.
“Zales and Valentine’s Day go hand in hand, and this year, we wanted to do something spectacular. As a company, we could not be more pleased to award Steve and Mary with the Celebration Diamond. We hope each time Mary looks at her ring, she remembers this one-of-a-kind Valentine’s Day,” said Mary Kwan, Zale Corporation executive vice president and chief merchandising officer.
The live contest took place on Duffy Square in the heart of Times Square in front of a 10-foot, two-ton steel heart commissioned by the Times Square Alliance and designed by Gage/Clemenceau Architects. The enormous sculpture will sit at the base of the redesigned and award-winning TKTS ticket booth through March 2.
“Times Square has always been a place where passion has found public expression, and the Times Square Alliance was delighted to do our part to help these couples profess their love on the biggest, brightest stage of all – Times Square,” said Times Square Alliance President Tim Tompkins. “Between the cutting-edge Valentine to Times Square sculpture and the excitement of the Profess Your Love contest, Valentine’s Day weekend is off to a great start here at the crossroads of the world.”
Stephen and Mary Kruzik have been married for 28 years, have three children and currently live in Pennsylvania. They will enjoy the weekend in New York City courtesy of Hotel AKA and Zales.
