What Fashion Trends Can We Expect In 2012

April 20, 2012 by

Fashion is moving faster than ever with the digital age allowing us all to be fashion critiques, spreading the latest gossip through Twitter and Facebook. There has never been a more difficult time to keep up with the latest trends! Below we have simplified some of the looks coming through in 2012.

Black and white

Black and white fashions always stand the test of time, and maintain their well-earned place as large colors for spring and summer of 2012. As demonstrated in Malene Birger’s collection, in Copenhagen Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

Aquatics

Aquatics are certainly back this year, as shown at the Grand Palais for the Chanel extravaganza in October. Karl Lagerfeld created an astonishing under-water world, complete with authentic shells, rocks and coral, all in white.

Pastel colours

Pastel shades, delicately combined with other pastels, both solids and florals, were a highlight of the Ralph Lauren 2012 Spring Fashion Show. These beautiful, soft hues seem particularly appropriate for the spring season.

Iridescence

This winter find your inner snow queen with iridescent fabrics, crisp textures and a sprinkling of glitter. This trend was shown, again at the Grand Palais Paris Fashion Week from the spectacular Chanel fashion show collection Spring Summer 2012.

Leather

It feels like leather is the ideal material for those blue months, and as well as being luxurious and stylish, it is also practical too, helping to keep you warm and dry. Expect to see ultra-short leather shorts, leather leggings and also the ultimate leather jackets coming into play during winter 2012.

Overlay

Sheer skirt overlays are a huge trend for spring/summer 2012. Worn over shorts, leggings, miniskirts or even jeans, if you can pull it off. On the catwalk, Lanvin and Missoni showed these skirts with just briefs under them, but few of us would dare attempt that on the streets.

Animal print

Yes, really, again! These are a Michael Kors signature fabric, but we saw him show them throughout his entire collection at New York fashion week. Sporty swimsuits, animal prints and perfect utilitarian jackets make him a natural leader for the safari trend.

Low 20s waist

If you have seen the film ‘The Artist’ you will know that this look is hot! Shapeless flapper-style dresses are trending this year, with some designers modernising the 1920s or 30s approach by drawing the line just around the hips, to suit our current shapes.
